In less than a month, I will have my "Coming Out" party--a light celebration of my very first essay publication, "Nothing There." I did not know that I'd have "Unicorns & Fairy Dust" published so soon, as well, so I'll be celebrating that one, too.
I know that to some, a published essay may not be as big a deal as a book being released. But I have learned throughout the past year to be grateful for every little thing, no matter how small and "insignificant," because those baby steps are what God uses to get me even further. And, after about eight rejections, it felt really good to finally find a home for "Nothing There."
So I'm throwing this little dinner party, and the theme of it is "bookish." The plan is for everyone to sport dollar store glasses so that we all look bookish and nerdy for the pictures.
But at this very moment, I'm trying my hardest to keep my focus back on my memoir. It will consist of short essays that will share the same narrative arc. I know, I know...essay collections normally do not do so well in the publishing business, but I feel more comfortable writing an essay that can stand alone, versus having to remain in that prison that says I have to write chapter after chapter.
